Pirouette Cutlery

Pirouette Cutlery by Ron Arad that seems to defy gravity!

(unedited) Office Chair See-Saw Photos

We have made an office chair see-saw in an attempt to make office furniture more fun and persuaded some office workers from University to test it out!

Giraffes United

Ceiling fans pose a serious threat to giraffes.
Tshirts by Jason Bergsieker, I nearly bought one, wish I had.

Unfortunate Names

Unfortunate Names is a collection of 100 name badges we made and exhibited at the Disasterexhibition last year. While Unfortunate Names is humorous collection, having an unfortunate name for life is not.

Design Classics

I visited the Conran Shop, always fun, and found the Design Classics exhibition. It is collection of classic furniture, half of which are real and half of which are fakes made for the exhibition. It was very hard to spot the fakes but fun!

QI

I went to see QI being filmed on the weekend and by luck ended up in the front row! I was amazed at the number of lights they used and was over the moon to see Sandi Toksvig!

Fossils

We have been photographing our modern fossils in the university's geology department today. Fossilisation is a method of preservation which we have used to preserve iconic objects of our time- the mobile phone, chip&pin cards, chubb keys, the bic lighter and ray ban sunglasses.

Baby Elephant Scultpures

I saw lots of these baby elephant sculptures in London today. Each elephant has been made by a different artist to raise money for an Asian elephant charity. My favourite is the multicoloured one.

Nepalese National Flag

The Nepalese flag has always been one of my favourite flag designs. It is the only national non-quadrilateral flag in the world.

I visited the 'No Souls for Sale' installation at the Turbine Hall last weekend.

Do Things Differently

An image we created for our University Degree Show bid- encouraging people to Do Things Differently. We hung our friend upside down and dipped her hair in paint- a very different way of painting!

Celeste Boursier-Mougenot

While visiting Arad at the Barbican we also popped into see Celeste Boursier-Mougenot's installation, an aviary with musical instruments. When the birds land on an instruments it plays, it is bizarre, hilarious and entrancing. Two finches landed on me and attacked my shoe laces for nesting material.

Watch a video of the birds below:

I heard an interview with Celeste after visiting, and when asked what his next project might be he answered 'fish'. I can't wait!

Ron Arad- Restless

I recently visited Ron Arad's exhibition Restless, a brilliant collection of his fun, experimental furniture. The "testing" section at the end was a big hit as so often you see chairs in galleries. as pieces of design, and never know how they function. My favourites included the RTW (Reinventing The Wheel) bookcase, the Superforming chairs- Tom Vac and Uncut, and the section called 'Failures'- a collection of Arad's work that didn't 'succeed'.

San Francisco

A belated set of photos from my trip to San Francisco. They include some car parks and kite shops, several chairs I got very excited about at MOMA, Olivetti typewriters, the amazing Jewish Museum and an interesting hexagonal trolley from Safeways.
